Remote Education
If your child is self-isolating at home (due to Covid symptoms or a positive Covid test result) but are well enough to continue with their schoolwork, then we will support them by providing remote learning through our online platforms and MS Teams. For detailed information on the policies and procedures we follow in such cases, please refer to our school website-key information-remote education section.

Outdoor Learning - Orienteering
Last Thursday afternoon Birch class spent the afternoon orienteering. In small groups the children were given a map of the school grounds and a crossword grid. The questions for the crossword were at each of the orienteering points marked on the map. All of the questions were linked to rainforests which is our geography topic for this term. It was great to spend time in our lovely grounds, in the sunshine, learning about about rainforests and getting some exercise at the same time.
Outdoor Maths
On Wednesday 20th April Birch Class Spent the morning outside investigating 3D shapes. The children made some amazing 3D shapes out of sticks and string.
Outdoor Learning
Birch Class have been having lots of fun during our outdoor learning lessons over the past three weeks.
Our first lesson was linked to science and DT and we learnt about levers, gears and pulleys. In our second lesson we had lots of fun trying out different problem solving activities which tested our communication skills. in the final week we combined history and music as well as survival skills. We learnt to chop firewood, lit our own fire and made hot chocolate in the style of the Ancient Mayans. We also played our homemade musical instruments around the campfire after tucking into delicious smores.
Week 1 - Science and DT
Week 2 - Problem Solving
Week 3 - Survival Skills, History and Music.
In History this term we are learning about the Mayan people. On Friday 11th March we had a Mayan workshop where we handled, identified and classified different artefacts, found out about roles in society and identified key foods eaten by the Mayans.
As part of our work on Anglo-Saxons, we have been using our outdoor learning area to find out how to forage and cook food on an open fire. We found blackberries and apples and baked bread on the fire. We also made a delicious mulled drink too!
We visited Haslingden High School open day on 14th September and had a fantastic time carrying out Chemistry, Physics and Biology experiments in the Science lab and learning to play "When the Saints Go Marching In" in Music.
