Music

At Waterfoot we believe that:

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils fell, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development.
(National Curriculum for Music 1999)

Curriculum Music

Each class has a weekly curriculum music lesson. Children in years 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all given the chance to learn to play the recorder. Percussion instruments are also used throughout school and children have many singing opportunities. ICT is frequently used, whether to deliver music sessions or for children to explore composing music of their own.

(Please look at our Music Policy for more informaation.

The Choir

The Choir is open to any junior child and is held on Wednesday after school from 3.20pm to 4.15pm. See the latest news about the choir on the Waterfoot Herald

Instrumental Lessons

County Peripatetic Music Staff teach guitar, keyboard, flute, recorder and violin to groups of children during lunchtime sessions. (Anybody interested should collect details from the office).

Extra Opportunities

Our children also have many other opportunities to practise their musical talents. We have a talent contests each year and both infants and juniors prepare and perform a Christmas Production. We also have a school band and school choir.

Children who can play a musical instrument and read some music are invited to join our school band on Tuesday from 3.20pm to 4.15pm
