Our topic this term was journeys and in Literacy we read books such as 'The Train Ride,' 'Who Sank the boat' and 'Whatever next' for the narrative aspect of our learning. For the Non-Fiction aspect we read Stars and Planets and for Poetry we read rhyming books such as 'Brilliant boats'. During this time, the children have continued to improve their skills at writing a sentence and a caption independently. The lower ability children have reinforced their ability to spell simple words and have a go at writing harder words using their phonics. They are beginning to write a sentence during guided writing sessions. The higher ability children are now writing a series of sentences independently and are learning how to start every new sentence with a capital letter and put a full stop at the end of every sentence. They are also building up their story structure understanding by writing about what happened at the beginning, middle and end of stories.
